Rector Ogbo Usman Urges Transparency as Kogi Poly Swears in New SUG, NAKOSS Executives

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has inaugurated its Student Union Government (SUG) and National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the SUG and NAKOSS on Monday, 4th November 2024, at the 200 Twin Lecture Theatre, the Polytechnic’s main campus, the new executives were urged to uphold their campaign values, embodying true student unionism that prioritizes students’ welfare.

Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, offered felicitations to the new SUG and NAKOSS leadership, emphasizing the importance of leading by example and establishing a enduring positive reputation.

Prof Ogbo Usman advised the new student leaders against adopting a sectarian approach, highlighting that sound governance is devoid of religious and ethnic biases.

Professor Ogbo Usman expressed admiration for the electoral committee’s commendable conduct of the elections, appreciated the magnanimous concession of the losing candidates, and urged the winners to exhibit exemplary leadership by fostering unity with their opponents.

He further advised the recently sworn-in executives of SUG and NAKOSS to be vigilant against manipulation by malicious individuals.

Professor Usman assured the executives that student welfare and well-being remain a top priority under his administration.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Engr. Adamu Mohammed Alaji, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, commended the students on their orderly conduct and acknowledged the valuable support provided by the Polytechnic management and his committee members.

In their individual addresses, Dr. John Adavuruku Aliyu, Dean of Student Services; Mr. Emmanuel Attah Onuh, Chief Security Officer; and Barrister Wiliams Ameh, Director of Legal Services, counseled the newly elected executives to utilize their positions to foster a culture of peaceful coexistence on campus, build upon the achievements of their predecessors, and consistently uphold the law, while serving as exemplary ambassadors for the institution.

In her inaugural address, SUG President Comrade Enimokanyi Oluwadamilola Janet commended her co-contestants for their sportsmanlike attitude and promised to display benevolence in her victorious tenure.

She pledged to the students that her tenure as leader would witness significant advancements in the SUG’s commitment to student-centric initiatives, and she requested broad-based support.

The newly inaugurated NAKOSS President, Abubakar Isah Sheriff, has pledged that his tenure will prioritize adequate representation for indigenous Kogi State students at Kogi State Polytechnic.

The inauguration ceremony featured key events, including the administration of oath of office to the newly elected executives of both SUG and NAKOSS, as well as the presentation of certificates of return.
