EFCC Plans to Arrest Gov Alia’s Associate, Group Alleges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

The Benue Renaissance Group (BRG) has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) plans to arrest Engineer Livinus Tsar, a close ally of Governor Hyacinth Alia, in order to undermine the Benue state government.

The Group alleged that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), specifically the Federal Government faction of the Benue APC, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, were orchestrating the plan, citing unfounded accusations of financial misconduct against Tsar.

A statement by Ronald Akaa, Coordinator, revealed that Tsar is targeted for his resolute backing of Benue State Governor Alia, with plotters planning to abduct and torture him to weaken the Governor’s support.

The group alleged that if Tsar is arrested, it would mark the beginning of attacks against Governor Alia’s allies using state agents or other means.

It condemned the plot and urged the people of the state to reject any attempt to distract the government of Governor Alia from delivering its promises to the people.

The statement reads in parts:
“We have uncovered devious plans in motion to abduct Mr. Livinus Tsar on trumped-up charges of financial impropriety using the anti-graft agencies. Reports indicate that the brief includes illegal detention, physical torture, and the administration of sedatives intended to vegetate or infirm him.”

“Revealed the motive of the plotters to eliminate and weaken the Governor’s support base. “This scheme, orchestrated by the Benue State’s Federal Government Caucus comprising of the National Assembly members and federal appointees from Benue, led by their acclaimed ‘Leader’, a former governor of the state, an ex-senator, and current Chief Scribe of the Federation, is designed to weaken the support for Governor Alia, sabotage his pro-people agenda, and eliminate his allies deemed obstacles to their agenda against Benue’s progress”

The Benue Renaissance Group sought to bring to the attention of the Benue masses and the general public this unholy plot against “an innocent man, whose only ‘offense’ is his unyielding support for Governor Alia’s commitment to the people of Benue.”

Reacting, the Special Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, on Public Affairs, Terrence Kuanum, refuted the allegation describing the group as a busybodied seeking relevance from the governor.

He noted that the SGF is more concerned with attracting development projects to the state and as a loyal party man, and he would not undermine any APC government.

Kuanum added that the SGF has always wished the Benue state Governor well and has continued to ask for prayers for his administration to succeed.
