The House of Representatives’ Committee on Housing conducted a working visit to the Federal Housing Authority headquarters.
The Committee, led by Chairman Rt Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, emphasized that the visit adheres to constitutional provisions governing oversight visits to government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Hon. Oladimeji Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, FHA, presented the agency’s achievements to the committee, noting its success despite the absence of annual budget appropriation over the past few years.
He explained that the authority’s main revenue source is Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), with 50% of its earnings being remitted to the federation account through the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) and Treasury Single Account (TSA).
Leaving 50% for overheads, personnel, and capital development, he committed to staff reorientation, capacity building, and act amendments, paving the way for future development, digitization, operational efficiency, and accuracy.
“Building on its success, Ojo connected offices across the country to headquarters for efficient decision-making and feedback and acquired land in 30 states for future growth.”
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to recovering properties scattered across the country, intensifying efforts to reclaim lands and houses illegally occupied, while facilitating regularization and revalidation for rightful occupants.
The 350 Max Drone acquired by the authority aims to promote digitization, collect accurate data, and strengthen the Federal Housing Authority Mortgage Bank (FHAMB) for operational effectiveness and efficiency. Additionally, FHA Energy Company Ltd will provide lighting for all its estates nationwide.
“We informed the committee of the forthcoming development of 200 Housing Units estates across Nigeria, intended to bolster the local economy and establish a comprehensive value chain within the nation’s housing sector.”
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Housing, Rt Honourable Abdulmumin Jibril, responded by promising to revert the authority’s finances to government appropriation and provide dedicated funding to support expanded housing opportunities for Nigerians.
He commended the new management for a job well done, promising more support from his experience as one of the Executive Directors a few years ago.
