The UN peacekeeping mission MINUSMA has concluded its withdrawal from Mali.
The United Nations Mission in Mali, MINUSMA, completed its withdrawal of all personnel from the country on November 15.
With over 15,000 personnel in the country, MINUSMA’s exit team confirmed several dozen international staff would leave Mali gradually before the December 31 deadline.
Malian authorities have demanded the UN mission leave the country after a decade, citing insufficient security provisions by the peacekeepers.
MINUSMA’s operations effectively ceased on 31 December 2023, although some teams remained in Mali to complete the mission.
