The North Central Zone’s State Houses of Assembly Speakers
are meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, to deliberate on fostering peace, unity, and development across the region and the country.
The Chief Press Secretary to Nasarawa Speaker, Jibrin Gwamna, released a statement indicating that the maiden North Central Speakers Conference for 2024, held at Edgedrive Hotel, Lokoja, Kogi State, was attended by Speakers from Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and Niger.
The two-day summit, led by Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker and host, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, focused on promoting peace, unity, and development within the region and the nation as a whole.
Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, welcomed forum members and stressed the critical need for regional State Houses of Assembly Speakers to forge a united alliance, promoting a cohesive voice on national issues and concerted efforts to stimulate growth and development within their jurisdictions.
“We need to strengthen our unity in the region, solidify our working relationships with ourselves and our Governors for development to thrive” He said.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, emphasized the crucial role of peace and unity, stressing the necessity for effective collaboration among government branches, particularly between the Legislature and Executive, as the most viable means of achieving peace, unity, and good governance.
Speaker Jatau presented a comprehensive discourse on the leadership mandate, emphasizing the importance of orientation and highlighting achievements while encouraging colleagues to take initiative in proposing ideas that drive developmental progress and create laws and resolutions benefiting their constituents.
