Married couples are reminded of the importance of continuing to promote religious and societal values in child upbringing to impart moral values to them and build an egalitarian society.
The Immediate Past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who also serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Yobe State, offered this advice at the wedding ceremony of Rukaiyat, his step-daughter, and her spouse, Yahaya, held in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
The wedding fatiha of Rukaiya Umaru Ibrahim and Yahaya Muhammad Dantsoho was attended by a delegation led by the former Speaker, Balarabe Abdullahi, comprising former and serving state lawmakers and government functionaries, where he counseled the newlyweds to avoid third-party interference in their marital disputes and instead strive to resolve their differences through intensified prayers, mutual understanding, and amicable settlement, emphasizing the importance of these values in achieving a successful and peaceful marriage.
Balarabe Abdullahi challenged his stepdaughter to maintain the family legacy she had inherited, which would be crucial in sustaining a happy and successful marriage.
He advised the couple to always bear in mind that marriage is a religious contract that should be upheld with sanctity and prayers.
Having fulfilled the necessary religious obligations and paid 150 thousand naira as dowry, the Chief Imam of Gidin Mangoro Juma’at Mosque Lafia, Mallam Alhasan Musa, pronounced Rukaiyat and Yahaya as husband and wife, reminding them to uphold the sanctity of marriage as enshrined in the Glorious Quran.
The Islamic Cleric reminded the couple that ongoing disregard of religious and societal values in child rearing contributes to moral decay and social vices in society, tasking them to bring up their children appropriately if God blesses them with children.
Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu and former Majority Leader Hon. Umar Tanko Tunga offered sage advice to Rukaiyat and Yahaya, highlighting the importance of patience, tolerance, understanding, and fear of God in sustaining a healthy marriage, and advising them to remain committed and focused in their relationship.
The State Secretary, Teachers’ Service Commission, Hon. Usman Labaran Shafa, advised Rukaiyat and her spouse Yahaya to avoid using intermediaries in their union and instead learn how to handle their affairs effectively without crisis.
The wedding ceremony united prominent figures from various sectors, including those within and outside the government circle, who all came to celebrate with the couple and their parents.
