Ex-Kogi Gov pleads not guilty to alleged 110 billion naira fraud
Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has pleaded not guilty to the 16-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), involving an alleged fraud of 110 billion naira.
The allegations include embezzlement of state funds, unauthorized acquisition of properties in Abuja and Dubai, and transfer of over $1 million to US bank accounts.
Bello appeared before the Federal High Court, FCT, Abuja, attired in a white kaftan and blue cap, alongside two co-defendants.
Reports emerges that Bello made significant transformations to the State during his tenure, improving it from its initial state.
The former Governor undertook various development projects, including the construction of roads, an overhead bridge in Lokoja, schools, and hospitals across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State.
The EFCC has accused Bello and his associates of misusing state treasury funds to acquire multiple properties, including a N950 million property in Maitama, a N100 million property in Gwarimpa, and a N920 million property in Asokoro.
In addition, they are accused of buying real estate in Wuse Zone 4 and a hotel apartment in Dubai.
The case poses a substantial legal challenge to the former governor, who is confronting serious allegations of financial misconduct during his term in office.
