Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau Director-General, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, recently hosted the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office. During his remarks, Dr.
Oghenesivbe highlighted the significant developmental strides of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, citing the construction of three flyovers at DSC Roundabout, PTI Junction, and Enerhen Junction in Warri and the ongoing dualization of the Asaba-Ughelli Express Road, which have significantly reduced travel time.
He also mentioned other projects like the Obo River Bridge and urged journalists to accurately portray the positive transformation underway in Delta State.
Dr. Oghenesivbe highlighted the Governor’s impact beyond infrastructure, citing the payment of bursaries to Delta State law students, a comprehensive student health care scheme, and the empowerment of SMEs through D-CARES programme and the State Wealth and Job Creation Bureau as part of the achievements of the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
He stressed the importance of balanced reporting, emphasizing constructive criticism and highlighting the good alongside areas needing improvement.
“Our media writing shouldn’t only focus on the negative,” he said, “but should present a balanced view of our state’s activities.”
The Director-General encouraged the journalists to seek clarification on any issues from the Hon. Commissioner for Information, his office (as D.G Orientation and Communications Bureau), the Chief Press Secretary to the governor or the Communications Manager.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the strong, collaborative relationship between the government and the media, crucial for building a better Delta State.
He further highlighted the Governor’s prudent management of state resources, resulting in savings of up to 250 billion Naira from operating cost, underscoring the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and redirecting funds toward development projects.
Dr. Oghenesivbe concluded by acknowledging the correspondents’ requests and assuring them that he would discuss them with his management team and the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza.
Earlier, the Asaba Correspondents Chapel Chairman (represented by his Vice, Comrade Matthew Ochei) congratulated Dr. Oghenesivbe on his new appointment as Director-General, noting his significant contributions to the administration’s information architecture and the positive impact he has made on media relations.
