PDP Chieftain reacts to Ibori’s daughter’s defection, says Deltans are not surprised
….We expect Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu to return to PDP after the 2027 general elections
Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the defection of Chief James Ibori’s daughter, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, was both foreseeable and entirely expected by the people of Delta State.
He made the assertion when asked to comment on the defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori, a former PDP member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, assuring that her exit from the party is grossly inconsequential, a big relief, and a good omen that was long awaited.
The Director General of the Orientation and Communications Bureau further revealed that the PDP’s political structures in Ethiope Federal Constituency are robust, unwavering, and united, ensuring effortless delivery of the party’s candidates in the upcoming general elections, particularly the governorship election.
He pointed out that before the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections, Chief James Ibori invited leaders of Ethiope Federal Constituency to his country home in Oghara, assuring PDP leaders that his daughter, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, should be allowed one tenure to complete the two-tenure slots allocated to Ethiope West LGA, allowing Ethiope East to take its turn in 2027, as per the irrevocable internal power rotation agreement within Delta PDP.
Oghenesivbe, who was a campaign spokesperson for Delta PDP in 2023 general elections, pointed out that Ethiope East agreed to Chief Ibori’s proposal and thereafter delivered his daughter clean and clear in a transparent, free and fair election, noting that Hon Erhiatake Ibor ‘s defection to the opposition party in the state was a deliberate attempt to truncate the promise made by Chief Ibori, so as to return his daughter for a second tenure, so as to shortchange Ethiope East LGA in 2027.
He assured that Chief Ibori’s daughter would inevitably face formidable political challenges within and outside their party in 2027, as the PDP is set to secure a decisive victory under the leadership of the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, adding that the outstanding performance of the ruling party in the state through the MORE agenda would strike a chord with the people at the polls.
“Hon. Erhiatake Ibori’s defection was delayed for obvious reasons. Chief Ibori’s camp calculated that they could eat their cake and have it after the 2023 general elections, but the reverse happened.”
“They (Chief Ibori Camp) have now decided to opt out of the PDP instalmentally. We clearly understand their politics of one leg in and one leg out, the Wike style.
“The loss of Ethiope West to the opposition party in the House of Assembly in 2023 can be attributed to the political deception of some individuals who maintain ties with both the PDP and the major opposition party in the state, a tactic often referred to as clever anti-party politics, similar to the approach employed by Chief Wike in Rivers State.”
“The video footage of the 2023 governorship election in Oghara remains archived. At the appropriate time, we will take necessary action, as it is premature to engage in 2027 electioneering politics.
“Deltans are not surprised that Erhiatake Ibori defected to the major opposition party; they knew it was coming, and now the coast is clear for all to see and appreciate.
“Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu will never be missed by the PDP; rather, we foresee her returning to PDP after the 2027 general elections, Oghenesivbe said
