US President Intervenes to Save Son from Self-Made Law

In an unexpected decision, President Joe Biden has chosen to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, relieving him of the consequences stemming from a crime law he was instrumental in creating during his time as a senator.

Hunter Biden faced charges for, among other things, knowingly making false statements on federal paperwork regarding his drug use in order to purchase a revolver and ammunition.

Joe Biden is shown in this video making a case for the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, suggesting severe consequences for drug possession, including asset forfeiture by the state, with no chance of reprieve, requiring a mandatory five-year term.

The law also established a considerable sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine. This disparity in sentencing contributed to considerable racial disparities in incarceration.

President Biden showed little enthusiasm for addressing the core problem, instead offering a basic solution: take ‘offenders’ off the streets.

This led states to expand their prison infrastructure, augment police forces through recruitment, and endorse programs facilitating increased drug-related arrests.

President Biden’s decision to exempt his son from the law he created is both ironic and insulting, particularly given the law’s role in disrupting many families through the prison industrial-complex pipeline.
