By Yahaya Idris, Asaba
Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, stated Tuesday that the MORE Agenda of his administration has started yielding positive results for the state’s citizens.
Governor Oborevwori revealed this in his address at the 5th edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop, themed: Advancing Delta Strategies for Public Communication and Effective Media Engagement, which took place in Hotel Benizia, Asaba, Delta state capital.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Governor Oborevwori tasked Government Spokespersons, Media appointees, Social Media Influencers, and Media Partners with countering propaganda and misinformation by showcasing the administration’s accomplishments to Deltans.
According to him, “Our projects, accomplishments, and M.O.R.E Agenda are consistently yielding positive outcomes for Deltans, while effectively delivering democratic dividends across the state’s three Senatorial Districts.”
He stated that the three-day capacity building programme, designed to enhance the skills and overall efficiency of media appointees and partners in the current administration in the state, was particularly well-timed.
“It is essential to enhance the skills and overall efficiency of media appointees to the governor to effectively propagate, promote, and disseminate the achievements, activities, policies, programs, and initiatives of our M.O.R.E Agenda, which comprises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.”
“Your engagement and responsibilities as media personnel and partners with the Delta State Government will, therefore, become even more expansive and comprehensive as we continue to deliver the pragmatic and life-impacting dividends of the M.O.R.E Agenda to Deltans.
“As government media personnel and partners, you must be fully prepared for that, recognizing the critical importance of your roles and responsibilities in the dynamic social media sphere.”
He restated that one of the primary communication policy priorities of his administration was to continually endorse the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he “continues” to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda for the improvement of Nigerians, including Deltans.
“As President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully supporting our administration, and as government media aides, partners, and spokespersons, we must ensure that our strategic communication engagements support the President and reflect the policies, gains, and advantages of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“It is only by doing this with sincere commitment that we can attract comprehensive benefits and goodwill from the Federal Government for our people.
“It is also important to emphasize, here, too, that as Government Spokespersons, Media appointees, Social Media Influencers and Media Partners, it is also the communication policy of this administration that the best and sure way to respond to negative propaganda is to consistently present and promote our projects, initiatives and the verifiable, impactful achievements of the M.O.R.E Agenda, in order to counter their propaganda and shut them up decisively.”
He commended the Workshop Coordinator and Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for sustaining this Communication workshop.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, stressed that strategic communication is crucial for any government, and the Oborevwori administration has undertaken the construction of 513 road projects across the state.
Dr Emu also stated that over 250,000 Deltans have been empowered by the state government under the various result areas of the D-CARES programme.
Mr Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), noted that Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe had shown consistency in promoting the state and had performed well in this regard during the previous administration, advising participants to give the training their undivided attention.
Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, the Chief Trainer at the workshop from the University of Lagos, emphasized that the workshop was a celebration of commitment to advancing media and communications in Delta State, noting that effective communication is vital for transformative governance.
While delivering his welcome remarks, the Director-General of the State Bureau of Orientations, Mr. Fred Latimore, pointed out that the capacity training workshop started in 2019 during the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his approval of the 2024 workshop.
Oghenesivbe assured that modules had been deliberately designed to equip participants with the knowledge required to carry out their jobs effectively.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the trainers for the three-day capacity building program included Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisiks, a prominent Communication Scholar and Director of the University of Lagos ICE, who led the training as the Chief Trainer. Other trainers included Prof. Joyce Ogwezi, HOD of the Mass Communications Department at Dennis Osadebay University in Asaba, Delta State and Dr. Emmanuel Akpoveta, Dean of the School of ICT at Delta State Polytechnic in Ogwashi-Uke.
The climax of the event is the unveiling of DELCOM 2024, with participants coming from both within and outside the State
