Lokoja Council Boss Suspends Nupe Natives Day Celebration, Coronation
Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, the Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, has ordered the immediate cancellation of the 2024 Nupe Natives Day celebration and the coronation of the Etsu Lokoja.
This decision comes amid concerns regarding public safety and local governance priorities. Adamu’s leadership has previously been recognized for addressing community security issues effectively, indicating a focus on maintaining order and safety in the region
In a letter addressed to Mr. Emmanuel AkamiSoko Dauda Shelika of Plot 306 Newlayout, Lokoja, and copied to the Divisional Police Officer and other security agencies, the Council Chairman writes:
RE: ETSU OF NUPE OF LOKOJA
Please refer to the proposed celebration/coronation of Etsu Nupe of Lokoja which is slated to take place on 21st December, 2024.
The Council as a constitutional authority is mindful of actions made by individuals and organizations.
It is quite apt to state here that the proposed title of Etsu Nupe of Lokoja is alien to our people and culture here in Lokoja and Is capable of generating into huge crisis.
We have a recognize traditional Institution in Lokoja and this proposed title has no history basis.
Therefore allowing the event to take place does not arise. Flowing from this and in consideration of the likely consequences, you are therefore informed of the disapproval of your request.
Furthermore, you are advice to stop parading yourself as the Etsu of Nupe Lokoja.
Security agencies have being notified of the Local Government position.

Recalled that the Nupe Natives of Lokoja had planned to celebrate it 2024 Cultural Fiesta on Saturday, an event meant to show case the rich culture of the Nupes.
