His remarks were made during a recent communication workshop, where he highlighted the pressing need for professionalism in the digital media landscape, aiming to address the challenges currently faced by journalists in Nigeria

Mr. Mideno Bayagbon spoke during the closing ceremony of the 5th Delta State Communication Workshop, emphasized the critical role of the media in shaping societal narratives.

He urged media professionals to adopt strategies that enhance public communication and effective media engagement to better inform and unite communities.

Bayagbon’s insights highlighted the importance of ethical journalism in promoting understanding and addressing societal challenges, particularly in the context of Nigeria’s diverse and complex landscape.

He urged journalists to adopt a mindset focused on building bridges and promoting the achievements of the State Government. He emphasized that fostering collaboration and positive narratives can significantly enhance public perception and support for government initiatives. This approach is essential for creating a more informed and engaged citizenry, ultimately contributing to societal progress.

“Those of you who are Media Aides of the governor of Delta State, the first thing is to read up. You need to read, you need to acquaint yourself with what the government is doing, tell the public what government has done or doing. You can also tell the story through video.

“In doing that you must be very careful, because when politics comes you must be careful what you write because if you defame anyone even the governor you are trying to defend might not be there when it gets to Court.

“In this profession there are laws and you are expected to abide by them”.

Mr. Mideno Bayagbon advised participants of the Delta State Communication Workshop (DELCOM) and journalists in general to prioritize personal development through continuous knowledge acquisition. He emphasized the importance of engaging in both formal and informal education to keep pace with the digital revolution in communication.

According to Bayagbon, such efforts are essential for adapting to the evolving media landscape and enhancing professional skills, ultimately benefiting their effectiveness in informing the public and supporting government initiatives

Mr. Mideno Bayagbon also encouraged workshop participants to build and cultivate friendships within the media community and beyond.

He stressed that these relationships can be invaluable when the need arises in their professional duties involving the public. By fostering connections, journalists can enhance collaboration, share resources, and gain support, ultimately enriching their work and enabling them to serve their communities more effectively. Building a strong network not only contributes to personal growth but also strengthens the overall impact of journalism in society.

“Journalism is more than just reporting facts; it is about creating connections, fostering understanding, and upholding ethical standards that inspire trust and unity,” Mr. Bayagbon stated.

In his remarks, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, the Delta State Head of Service, represented by Chucks Aguonye, commended the workshop facilitator for their expertise. He noted that their contributions have enriched media practitioners with valuable knowledge and practical experience.

Bayoko emphasized that this training has inspired and empowered participants to become more effective communicators, equipping them to drive positive change in their respective areas of influence.

‘’The art of communication is the language of leadership, I charge you to leverage on your newfound knowledge and skills to foster effective media engagements that showcase the remarkable achievements of our government.

While applauding the State Government for its commitment to enhancing journalism skills, Mr. Reginald Bayoko urged media practitioners to act as a bridge between the government and the public.

He emphasized the importance of providing feedback that can inform decision-making processes. Bayoko called for collaboration among journalists to advance Delta State and create a brighter future for all citizens, highlighting the essential role of effective communication in fostering understanding and progress within the community.

Dr. Barry Gbe, the Chief Economist Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, praised the state government for facilitating the training workshop. He urged participants to apply the skills acquired to enhance public communication and media engagement, ultimately improving their careers.

Gbe emphasized that leveraging these skills is crucial for effective communication within the community and for fostering positive relationships between the government and the public.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the State Governor, represented by Commissioner for Transport Mr. Onoriode Agofure, highlighted that the workshop has become a significant platform for training and capacity-building among media professionals.

He noted its focus on equipping journalists and media aides with essential skills to navigate the evolving challenges of the media landscape.

Emu urged participants to effectively utilize the training to enhance their reporting on government activities, ensuring that the public remains well-informed about state affairs.

Dr. Kingsley Emu urged participants to fully utilize the three-day training as a valuable tool for reporting government activities. He emphasized the importance of applying the skills learned to enhance the quality of journalism in covering state affairs.

He commended Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, for his dedication, resilience, and loyalty to the Governor, recognizing his significant contributions to the workshop’s success.
