Mrs Adagba, Benue SUBEB chairman, bragged about retaining her position after allegedly bribing Assembly members

The embattled Benue State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Dr. Grace Adagba, has bragged that she cannot be removed by mere members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

According to an inside source, Mrs Adagba is confident of her stay as chairman of the board following her success in bribing some assembly members with one million naira N1,000,000 each to make them reverse their decision.

According to the source, Mrs Adagba is moving to bribe all the thirty-two Assembly Members between Friday and Sunday to perfect her plan to remain as the board chairman.

The source explained that Mrs Adagba is boastful that her 1m to each Assemble member is working which is why she had stepped aside but refused to officially hand over to another person.

It will be recalled that on December 19, the State House of Assembly directed the SUBEB chairman to step aside from her official duties
and hand over to Permanent Commissioner One in the Board, pending the conclusion of the investigation into controversies surrounding the ongoing recruitment of Primary School Teachers in the State.

In a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Terver Zamber the House also set up a seven-man ad-hoc committee chaired by Rt. Hon. Caphas Dyako to investigate the activities of the board and report to the house within seven days.

According to the statement, member representing Katsina- Ala West State Constituency, Hon Bemdoo Ipusu who moved the motion informed the house that, after the resolutions of the House directing the SUBEB chairman to suspend the ongoing recruitment of Primary School Teachers to allow for investigation into controversies surrounding the exercise were conveyed to the chairman, she went ahead to release a statement indicating that new cut off marks have been allocated to the CBT conducted by the board and subsequently shortlisted additional names for physical screening.

Ipusu noted that the statement released by the board is not only reactionary but disparaging of the honour of the Assembly and its resolutions.

The House was divided into two following a counter motion and Twenty One members of the House voted in favor of a resolution calling for the immediate stepping aside of the SUBEB chairman.
