Gegu Beki Town in Kogi State celebrated its annual Gegu Beki Day on Friday, attracting prominent personalities and guests from various places. The event, organized by the Gegu Beki Development Association, highlighted the town’s cultural heritage and community zeal.

This year’s celebration marked a significant gathering for the local population, emphasizing unity and tradition within the ancient town.

The Gegu Beki day commemoration included visits to the Nigeria Military Unit, Police Force, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Vigilante Group Nigeria, VGB, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, as part of the programme.

Moreover, the leadership of Gegu Beki Development Association visited the GYB General Hospital and Primary Healthcare Centre, providing a substantial donation to support the care of patients recovering from a range of illnesses and injuries.

Cash awards of similar value were presented to the security agencies in the area in recognition of their relentless efforts to combat security challenges and to join in their celebration during the Yuletide season.

Engr. Abubakir Mohammed Bashir Gegu, an outstanding son of Gegu Beki, who is presently the Commissioner of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, explained that the day is set aside to celebrate her achievements, challenges, and prospects.

During his address to the ranks and file of Military Unit, Vigilante group of Nigeria, Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigeria Security and Civil defense corps, Engr.Abubakar Gegu explained that the purpose of the familiarisation and Yuletide Visits was to acknowledge and appreciate the enormous contributions of these outfits in securing lives and property of citizens, which has led to the community being referred to as a paragon of peaceful, progressive and united area.

According to him, the visit would allow the community to witness firsthand the challenges they face and devise solutions within their capabilities, while also drawing government attention when necessary.

Dr. Abubakar Musa, National President of Gegu Beki Development Association, explained that the association’s familiarization tour to military and para-military structures in the community is an expression of appreciation for their outstanding contributions to securing lives and properties.

He noted that the visit is also a call to action for security organizations to redouble their efforts, implementing more effective strategies to prevent crime and criminality, thus accelerating peace, unity, and development that the community has long been known for.

During a visit to the Palace of Nyiwo Gegu Beki, His Royal Majesty Alhaji Mohammed Abbas Alhassan, a first-class traditional ruler, praised the sons and daughters of Gegu Beki for their commitment to driving development in their forefathers’ land.

The monarch prayed God for His continued blessings on them and the entire land ,urging them to promote harmonious relationships with their co-habitants to sustain the existing peace , unity and development of the kingdom.

Captain Moses Oji of the Nigerian Army, Suleiman Labaran, Operations Officer of the Vigilante Nigeria Group, and Abdullahi Nuhu, Kogi Sub-Commander, expressed their appreciation for the leadership of Gegu Beki community, whose moral and material support has greatly facilitated their operations. Captain Moses Ojih assured that the military unit in Gegu Beki, in collaboration with other security agencies, will take all necessary measures to prevent and address any security threats.

Prominent government functionaries in attendance included Hon Railwan Adamu Bala Ette, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change, SSA on Pipeline Surveillance, and representatives of the Egbira Peoples Association, led by Hon Alhassan Adankeke.
