Maikaya Development Foundation installs multimillion solar-powered borehole in Toto LGA
…Pledges to provide scholarships to 500 indigenous students of Nasarawa State origin in 2025

The Maikaya Development Foundation has initiated a 6,000-liter solar-powered borehole project in Toto community to address ongoing water scarcity issues in the area.
This project is part of the foundation’s commitment to improving living conditions in the area, which includes various development initiatives since its establishment in 2015 by Dr Musa Muhammed Maikaya. The foundation aims to enhance local access to essential resources and promote sustainable development in Toto Local Government Area
The commissioning ceremony and the donation of the borehole, which took place at Angwuwan Sarki, Muhammad Umar Azaki, Toto North, on Wednesday, was attended by dignitaries from within and outside Nasarawa State.
The multimillion naira solar-powered water project situated at Angwuwan Sarki, Muhammed Umar Azaki, a street in the northern part of Toto town, has alleviated the challenges of accessing drinking water, which had previously caused significant hardship for the occupants, forcing them to trek long distances to access potable drinking water prior to Maikaya’s intervention.
The Maikaya Development Foundation, a non-governmental organization, launched relief efforts by installing a six thousand litres capacity solar-powered borehole to alleviate the community’s suffering, a development that earned commendations from government officials who described it as a rare and timely intervention in recent times.
While presenting the borehole to the beneficiary community, Dr Musa Muhammed Maikaya, Chief Executive Officer of the Maikaya Development Foundation, stated that it was part of the humanitarian service rendered by the foundation, noting that having carefully observed and identified the basic challenges of the Angwuwan Sarki Muhammad Umar Azaki, the foundation did not hesitate but rather awarded the contract for the drilling of the borehole, which was completed in less than two weeks.
Dr. Maikaya, holder of the Ciroman Toto Chieftaincy title, disclosed that the foundation’s main goal is to augment government efforts towards guaranteeing that rural communities reap the benefits of democracy, maintaining that government cannot single-handedly achieve this, hence the necessity for civic-minded individuals to contribute to the provision of basic social amenities such as boreholes and other vital facilities to ease their plight.
Maikaya, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former Governorship aspirant in the State, announced the foundation’s continued commitment to education, revealing that a portal will be made available for 500 students of Nasarawa State to access its annual scholarship programs for the year 2025.
Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, executive chairman of Toto local government area, performed the commissioning of the borehole, praising the Maikaya Development Foundation for the initiative, which he described as a rare relief to the local government, and reiterated his commitment to securing government protection for the project.
Yahaya assured Toto residents that his administration would present a bill to the council’s legislative arm as part of efforts to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to Toto’s development, which he stated would inspire them to do more.
Barrister Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku, Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, praised the CEO of the Maikaya Development Foundation and his team for the commendable project, highlighting the vital role of the community in ensuring the facility’s longevity and maximizing the benefits offered by the foundation.
Barr. Tanko, a former Chairman of Kogi local government in Kogi State, observed that now that the Maikaya Development Foundation is at the doorstep of Toto people, it is crucial to note that a time will always come for reciprocation, adding that when that time comes the people should not hesitate to provide support in order to reap more benefits.
Makama Dogo of Osuku Commends Maikaya Development Foundation, MDF, and the contractor for their outstanding work, urging other well-to-do individuals in the area to collaborate with Maikaya to enhance the value of Toto and its environs.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting community, the street head also known as Mai Angwuwan Sarki, Muhammed Umar Azaki, Mallam Abdulrahman Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to the CEO Maikaya Development Foundation, Dr. Musa Muhammed Maikaya for the gesture and new gift he has offered them.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the community, promising continued support, loyalty, and cooperation in pursuit of his vision for Toto’s advancement and beyond, and wished the foundation success.
Earlier, Comrade Shuaibu Sani, chief operating officer of Maikaya Development Foundation, and Comrade Jafar Loko, Nasarawa state chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, stated that the foundation’s activities attracted commendations from the youth of Nasarawa, who pledged their support to enable the foundation achieve its desired objectives.
Both the Jamaatu Nasurul Islam (JNI) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leaders, women, and youth groups turned out in large numbers for the event, praying for the success of Maikaya Development Foundation.
