Bauchi Governor criticizes Tinubu’s economic reforms, says President should address Nigerians’ concerns
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, urging him to heed Nigerians’ concerns. Governor Mohammed stated, “Your policies are not working, and people are suffering.”
The governor issued this statement during a meeting with a delegation of Islamic scholars, led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, at the Government House in Bauchi.
He stated: “I am not insulting anybody, and it is not arrogance, but as leaders, it is our duty to tell ourselves the truth. We are saying this so the president can correct his mistakes. Nigerians are suffering, and we, the governors, are also suffering because of the president’s bad policies.”
Governor Mohammed specifically alluded to the President’s tax reform bill, which has generated widespread controversy. While recognizing the importance of government revenue, he underscored the adverse consequences of such policies on ordinary citizens.
The governor, a prominent figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), articulated his primary concern: the difficulties faced by the masses and the president’s failure to respond to their grievances.
Governor Mohammed also commended Sheikh Jingir for his visit and urged the Islamic scholar to approach the president on these issues, because the president listens to him.
