Ortom applauds Tinubu over North Central Development Commission Initiative

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the bill establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC), as announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a senate session on Tuesday.

In a gesture of appreciation for the development, the Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom voiced his endorsement for the development and praised President Tinubu for signing the bill into law.

A statement issued by Terver Akase, Media Aide to Chief Samuel Ortom, on February 6, 2025, confirms President Tinubu’s commitment to listening to the voices and yearnings of the people. The former Governor of Benue emphasized that the North Central region has endured over a decade of devastation, with numerous lives lost and millions displaced due to attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements.

Chief Ortom described the development as a groundbreaking and vital moment in the ongoing efforts to resolve the myriad challenges facing the North Central region of the country, including security threats and economic sabotage.

He emphasizes that the North Central has endured over a decade of devastation, with countless lives lost and millions displaced due to the relentless attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements.

Chief Ortom stated that the establishment of the NCDC confirms President Tinubu’s commitment to listening to the voices and yearnings of the people.

“I believe that the North Central Development Commission will not just be a bureaucratic entity; it will represent hope for our communities that have suffered immeasurable losses due to unprovoked attacks. The people of North Central have long awaited this moment, and it is heartening to see that our aspirations have been recognized at the highest level of government.”

The former Governor expressed his appreciation to the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the NCDC.

“Senator Moro has once again demonstrated remarkable commitment to the welfare of our people. He has been a tireless champion for peace and development. His efforts have been instrumental in bringing this vision to fruition, and I commend him for his exemplary leadership.”

Chief Ortom congratulates Dr. Titus Zam, Senator representing Benue North West Senatorial District, on his appointment as Chairman, Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission. He wishes Senator Zam success in his endeavours to establish the Commission.

As one of those who consistently advocated the creation of a Commission to address the development challenges confronting the North Central and also help in rebuilding the ravaged parts of the region, Chief Ortom urges the people of the area to support the NCDC to succeed, when the commission is established.

Global Times Nigeria reports that the law aims to strengthen the economy and infrastructural development of the North-Central geopolitical zone. The NCDC is intended to address challenges and promote economic growth, infrastructure reconstruction, and rehabilitation in the North-Central region.
