CP Dantawaye take steps to strengthen partnerships, ensure a safer Kogi State

Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller G. Dantawaye of the Kogi State Police Command hosted a strategic meeting with high-profile delegations on Thursday, February 6, 2025, to foster collaborative policing and community engagement initiatives throughout Kogi State.

The police command in Kogi has been working to strengthen ties with traditional rulers to enhance security in the state. As part of these efforts, the Ata Igala assured CP Dantawaye of the traditional council’s support for community policing during a courtesy visit to Idah.

According to press statement issued by SP Williams Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Police Command, 6th February, 2025, said a significant visit from religious leaders of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Lokoja District Church Council (DCC), led by DCC Chairman Rev. Dr. Frank Paul, the clergy members who prayed fervently for the success of Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller G. Dantawaye and his team.a

They pledged their support by offering valuable information to assist in enhancing security efforts in Kogi State.

The spiritual leaders also encouraged CP Dantawaye to replicate his commendable service record from Benin City in Kogi.

This meeting demonstrates the ECWA’s unwavering commitment to working with law enforcement to address security challenges within the state. The involvement of religious leaders reinforces the crucial role of community engagement in policing strategies, seeking a safer Kogi State.

A delegation from Globacom (Glo) Regional Office, Lokoja, led by Regional Manager, Mr Mohammed and other senior executives, paid a courtesy visit, recognizing the significance of robust telecommunications support in security operations and pledging network services and access to strengthen force communication.

Also, The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Kogi State Chapter, led by State Coordinator Mr. Austin Tantoluwa, visited Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller G. Dantawaye on February 6th, 2025.

The group aims to eradicate cultism and drug abuse. They presented CP Dantawaye with a roll-up banner with the message: “To all criminals in Kogi State, repent or relocate – there’s a new sheriff in town,” emphasizing the CP’s commitment to a crime-free Kogi State.

POCACOV is a Nigerian Police Force initiative focused on saving youths from cultism and other vices. It uses advocacy, awareness campaigns, sensitization, re-orientation, and community outreach. The program acknowledges the connection between cultism and violent crimes involving young people and employs community policing practices to address these issues.

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), led by Dr. Mrs. Dantawaye, also visited Command Headquarters. The Chairperson appealed to the CP for greater involvement of senior Officers’ Wives in POWA’s mobilization efforts, while pledging their support in ensuring a smooth tenure for the CP and crime-free Kogi State.

In his response, CP Dantawaye assured them of his commitment to empowering women, urging them to be determined and courageous in their pursuits. He emphasized the importance of economic empowerment and skill acquisition programs to improve their welfare and that of their families.

As part of his command commitment to ensure crime free Kogi State, CP Miller Dantawaye visited Chief Judge of Kogi State, Hon. Justice Josiah Majebi, with senior judicial officers.

CJ Majebi described the new Commissioner of Police as a “peculiar and special leader,” and said the dignitaries at the meeting testified to his character.

Majebi emphasized the need for legal training for police officers to ensure due process in handling criminal cases and advised the CP to work with the State Government to ensure a safe environment for Kogi State.

CP Dantawaye assured the judiciary that he would establish a legal training platform for officers to enhance their knowledge of the Law. He also reiterated his commitment to justice, security, and cooperation with all stakeholders to ensure peace in Kogi State.

Global Times Nigeria reports that CP Dantawaye assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police for Kogi State on January 24, 2025, after the Police Service Commission approved his appointment, along with Betty as Commissioner of Police for Edo State, on January 16, 2025.

In early February 2025, CP Dantawaye directed the enforcement of third-party insurance across Kogi State

With these strong alliances in place, the new Commissioner of Police is poised to lead a transformative security agenda for Kogi State. This symbolic gesture underscored the CP’s commitment to a crime-free Kogi State.
