According to NYAN, This legislation is viewed as a pivotal move towards fostering development and advancing the administration’s renewed hope agenda in the North Central region, which includes states like Benue, Kogi, and Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara and FCT.
A statement issued by the Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja, through its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Lawal (Dubagari Jnr), revealed that the NCDC aims to address significant challenges such as underdevelopment, infrastructure deficits, and insecurity in the region, with the intention of facilitating economic growth and rehabilitation efforts, similar to initiatives seen in other geopolitical zones like the North-East Development Commission.
The Northern Youth Assembly considers this development as a “greatest gift” to the people of North Central Nigeria, underscoring the long-standing necessity for targeted intervention in the area.
The establishment of the NCDC has been praised by various groups, including political forums and youth organizations, which emphasize its potential to transform the region by focusing on critical areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
The commission’s success will depend on effective leadership and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure it meets its objectives and addresses the pressing needs of the communities it serves
The group commended the National Assembly members from the region for sponsoring the bill, noting that their actions reflect a commendable unity of purpose among lawmakers representing the North Central region.

The Northern Youth Assembly has expressed its gratitude to Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum, for his exemplary leadership. His decision to convene a consultative meeting with his counterparts from Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Niger, and Plateau States, as well as Members of the National Assembly and other regional stakeholders, was commended as a pivotal step towards fostering unity and collaboration among the states in the region.
Governor Sule deserves commendation for his tireless efforts to foster a united front and prioritize development, transparency, accountability, and fairness.
His leadership has been pivotal in facilitating meaningful progress in the North Central region.
Nevertheless, the Assembly has expressed strong reservations about Senate Majority Leader Senator Bamidele Opeyemi (APC, Ekiti Central), who has proposed amendments to the NCDC bill, including a contentious plan to relocate the commission’s headquarters from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Minna, Niger State. The Northern Youths Assembly has denounced this move, describing it as divisive and inimical to regional solidarity.
Senator Opeyemi’s motion is seen as divisive and detrimental to regional solidarity. “We strongly condemn Senator Opeyemi’s clandestine efforts to alter the headquarters of the NCDC,” the statement read. “Such actions risk fostering disintegration among the people of the North.” We call on the Senate to reject this proposal in its entirety and urge Senator Opeyemi to retract his proposal, respecting the retention of Lafia as the headquarters.

They emphasized that Nasarawa State, under Governor Sule’s leadership, has demonstrated significant progress in maintaining peace and creating a conducive environment for growth, making it a logical choice for hosting the NCDC.
