Excitement as NCFRMI Resettles 40 Families in Nasarawa

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has begun relocating 40 internally displaced households from temporary camps in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja to a purpose-built resettlement area in Keffi, Nasarawa State. This initiative includes permanent structures such as schools, healthcare centers, skill acquisition facilities, and a police station to ensure long-term support. The relocation aims to provide stability and better living conditions for the IDPs.

More so, the NCFRMI plans to sponsor 10 students from IDP camps to pursue university education and is collaborating with organizations like the Universal Basic Education Commission to enhance educational continuity for displaced children.

In the first phase of the resettlement exercise, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) successfully relocated 40 families, totaling approximately 300 individuals, to a newly developed resettlement community in Keffi, Nasarawa State. The community was designed to provide safe housing, essential services like healthcare and education, and opportunities for rebuilding livelihoods. Facilities include a skill acquisition center, greenhouses for farming, and a market for selling produce. The initiative aims to restore dignity and improve living conditions for displaced persons while integrating them into the local community

Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), personally supervised the relocation of internally displaced families to the resettlement city in Keffi, Nasarawa State. During the process, he urged the resettled families to respect community laws and protect the facilities provided to support their integration and well-being. This initiative reflects his commitment to ensuring sustainable solutions for displaced persons through effective resettlement and rehabilitation programs.

The resettlement city in Keffi, Nasarawa State, developed by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), is equipped with essential infrastructure to support displaced families. It includes an access road, clean water systems, a school, a market, worship centers, recreational areas, and greenhouses for farming. These amenities are designed to foster a safe and inclusive environment while enabling residents to rebuild their lives with dignity

In further to providing permanent shelter, the relocation exercise also incorporated the distribution of food and non-food items to support the families’ immediate needs as they start this new chapter of their lives.

Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed reiterated NCFRMI’s commitment to resettling and reintegrating displaced families during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Keffi, underscoring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to provide equal access to opportunities, services, and protection for all persons of concern.

The Emir of Keffi applauded the Commission for its proactive strategy and pledged the full support of traditional and community leaders in ensuring peaceful coexistence and successful integration of the resettled families into the broader community.

Community leaders also conveyed their appreciation to the Federal Government and NCFRMI for launching the resettlement programme, which they characterized as a significant step towards sustainable solutions for displaced populations.
