Kogi Central Constituents begin Recall Process Against Sen. Natasha

Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have initiated a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan due to a vote of no confidence in her representation.

The process, ongoing across five local government areas, aims to address dissatisfaction with her handling of issues like poverty, infrastructure, and education.

However, group loyal to Senator Natasha alleged that there are allegation of deceitful tactics, including tricking constituents into signing petitions under false pretenses.

The recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was observed in Okehi Local Government Area, where a significant number of constituents gathered to support the recall.

This effort is part of a collective initiative across five local governments in Kogi Central Senatorial District, driven by dissatisfaction with her performance on issues like poverty, infrastructure, and education.

However, group loyal to Senator Natasha who spoke under condition of anonymity expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the signatures being collected, with allegations of deceitful tactics and involvement of faceless individuals.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not officially acknowledged the recall process

Some voters who took part in the ongoing recall process, namely Nura Ibrahim, Adagiri Musa, and Tijani Usman, stated that the exercise is being conducted beyond party lines due to the growing dissatisfaction among constituents with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s performance, especially in tackling critical issues like poverty, infrastructure, and education.

“The decision to initiate the recall process was not taken lightly, with key stakeholders stating that they had tried to engage with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on several occasions, but their efforts were met with disdain and arrogance,” he said.

The recall process is expected to take two days across all polling units in the five local governments of Kogi Central, during which time constituents will be obligated to sign a petition calling for the senator’s recall.
