Flooding Alert: DG NASWAMSA Warns Nasarawa Residents to Avoid Building on Waterways

The Director-General of Nasarawa state and sanitation authority, NASWAMSA, Mohammed Bello Isa, has issued a crucial warning to residents of Nasarawa State, urging them to refrain from constructing buildings on waterways to prevent flooding.

This alert comes as the state seeks to mitigate the risks associated with flooding and ensure the safety of its citizens. By avoiding the erection of buildings on waterways, residents can play a vital role in preventing flooding and protecting their communities.
This proactive measure aligns with the state’s efforts to address water scarcity and improve water supply management.

“I am just three months in office, I have recorded a remarkable achievements in terms of staff verification and putting into use the the organization’s trucks that were grounded without functioning”.

According to him, NASWAMSA has been alerted to the possibility of flooding during the rainy season. To mitigate this risk, people are advised to avoid building structures on waterways and blocking drainages, which can jeopardize their lives.

The areas identified as danger zones are Karu, Keffi, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, Lafia, Toto, Doma, Keana, and Obi. It was noted that refuse is often dumped locally and near homes, creating unhygienic environments that should be avoided.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work towards making Nasarawa state a healthy living environment for its citizens.
