NSUK Alumni Association Splits as Rival Faction Holds Separate Election
By Roseline Okafor, Nasarawa State
Ahead of the impending Nasarawa State University Alumni Association election on Saturday, April 5, 2025, a rival group has emerged with a different list of 19 candidates vying for various positions.
According to the list seen by our correspondent, Roseline Okafor, three persons are contesting for the presidency, along with their vice-presidential candidates.
Other positions include secretary, financial secretary, assistant secretary (with two aspirants), treasurer (with two contestants), welfare secretary, legal adviser (with two candidates), auditor-general (with two candidates), and public relations officer (with two contestants).
The list, posted on the NSUK Alumni WhatsApp group by Mazisanchez26 and duly signed by the Electoral Body of the association, has generated mixed reactions among members.
Some have questioned the legitimacy of the list, prompting heated debates and counter-accusations against the electoral body.
Some members, like IBB, have condemned the parallel list as a “Yahoo organization” and a “criminal act” by unscrupulous elements.
Aluta, another member, threatened to report the matter to security agencies.
“We will inform the DSS and Police for proper action against those planing evils on our election day….. electoral committee please take note”
The WhatsApp group is currently embroiled in a heated debate, with members accusing the electoral body of manipulating the election process, including the sale of forms and screening.
They claim the process lacks transparency, as forms were only available to one unopposed candidate, leaving no opportunity for other interested candidates to purchase forms.
As of the time of filing this report, the rival faction has yet to release its list of candidates, however, supporters of the candidates continue to display posters of their preferred aspirants ahead of the Saturday election.
