The immediate past President of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), Comrade Wiska Monday, has expressed his intention to run for the position of Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), Delta State Chapter.

In a recent interview, Comrade Monday articulated that his decision to join the race is motivated by a clear mission to reinvigorate the Congress’ structure in Delta State, prioritizing unity, infrastructural growth, and political awareness among young people.

“My intention to contest is based on my vision to build the Southern Nigeria Youth Congress like never before in Delta State. I want to create platforms and opportunities for youth development and empowerment. It’s time we teach the youths that success demands hard work, discipline, and focus,” he said.

According to him, fostering unity and cooperation among youths in the Southern region is paramount.

He also emphasised his plan to champion regional interests and advocate for development that reflects the unique needs of Southern Nigeria.

“We must begin to speak for the interests of the Southern region. As a body, our priority will be to ensure regional progress. Beyond rhetoric, we will implement youth-centric programs that sensitise and reorient our youths to shun all forms of social vices and embrace personal growth,” Wiska said.

Highlighting his track record, he noted that he had served not only as National President of NADESSTU but also as Head of Class(HOC), Secretary to the HOC Forum, and departmental representative under the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.

During his tenure, he spearheaded several student-focused initiatives, with particular emphasis on skill acquisition and economic empowerment.

He was also instrumental in ensuring that student welfare remained a priority on the state government’s agenda, advocating for the consistent disbursement of bursaries, organising capacity-building seminars, and facilitating engagement between students and policymakers.

Comr. Monday added that his proposed leadership in the Congress would, in a similar vein, will work in partnership with government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of impactful programs, especially in areas of youth rights advocacy and economic empowerment.

“We will speak for the youths when they are being oppressed, whether through police harassment or any form of ill-treatment. We must always stand by the youth of Delta State,” he affirmed.
