In a recent interview with newsmen in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Mr. Emmanuel Abuhson, the Chief Executive Officer of TREMMA Agro Services, discussed extensively about the Agro initiative, saying it’s a lucrative business in the world. He emphasized that this initiative is designed to change the narrative around Nigerian youth in agriculture, promoting it as an attractive and viable career path.

He also acknowledged the support from stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr. Abuhson stated that Niger State has transitioned from the traditional manpower-driven farming system to a technological and mechanical-based system.

He advised other states to upgrade to the prevailing system to enhance domestic food sufficiency and export capabilities, resulting in revenue generation.

The Chief Executive Officer of TREMMA AGRO SERVICES emphasized that the exclusive use of manual labor in agriculture will undoubtedly result in reduced agricultural input and output, pointing out that more than sixty percent of the land remains uncultivated due to the constraints of manual labor.

The agriculturalist, a native of Kogi, urged Nigerians to look ahead, stressing that the application of mechanization and technology in agriculture is essential to closing the gap with nations that are further ahead.

He called on Kogi State to dismantle human barriers impeding agricultural development, pointing out that multiple administrations have expressed interest in agriculture without sector handlers offering a matching vision.

Abuhson called for stakeholders to collaborate and promote the sector, prioritizing communal progress and eschewing individualistic benefits.

He also recommended public-private partnerships to achieve a level of results appealing to the government to create a flexible environment for agriculture to prosper.

Concerning the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET)’s weather prediction for this year, Abuhson called for the involvement of extension service workers to simplify weather information, enabling local farmers to make informed decisions and avoid losses and frustration in farming and cropping planning.
