Ododo Mourns Okunchi Accident Victims, Calls for Emergency Response Review

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed sadness over a tragic road accident in Okunchi, Adavi local government area, which resulted in the deaths of seven people and injured several others.

This, Ododo’s statement reflected his empathy and commitment to the welfare of Kogi residents, consistent with his leadership style focused on responsiveness and care for the people.

A press statement from Government House, issued by Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on April 24, 2025, confirmed that Governor Ododo, who is currently on a state assignment in China, described the death of seven victims in the Okunchi road accident as a major blow to the community and the state. The statement conveyed the Governor’s deep sadness over the tragedy and his condolences to the families affected, emphasizing the impact of the loss on Kogi State.

The Governor expressed concern that losing diligent individuals who work tirelessly to provide for their families constitutes a tragic loss not only for their immediate relatives but also for the entire community that relies on the contributions of these individuals to sustain the local economy.

While praising Honourable Bashiru Okatengwu, chairman of Adavi local government area, for mobilizing emergency responders and interventions to the accident scene, the Governor offered condolences to the immediate families of the victims and the people of Adavi local government area for their tragic loss.

“Our people are known for working round the clock due to the prevailing peace and security that have encouraged people to go about their lawful businesses without fear; but to have their lives cut short by acts of recklessness by other road users calls for concern and I urge all those responsible to prevent a reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident,” Governor Ododo said.

He expressed his appreciation for the support given to the victims and their families by community members, noting that their actions exemplify love and solidarity during times of desperation, reflecting the inherent nature of the state’s inhabitants.

Governor Ododo also advocated for an assessment of emergency healthcare facilities in the area to ensure more effective coordination in managing emergency situations.
