Security operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Yahaya Zango, a wanted kidnapper, at the Abuja Hajj Camp during the screening of pilgrims preparing for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Zango, a resident of Paikon-Kore in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had been declared wanted for his alleged involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents.

He was apprehended after presenting his international passport and blending in with other pilgrims.

The arrest occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, as DSS operatives identified and took him into custody amid heightened security measures.

A senior official from the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed the arrest, noting that Zango had been on the run following a security-led manhunt.

“It was this afternoon during the screening at the hajj camp in the airport when the DSS operatives apprehended him and whisked him away,” the source was quoted as saying.

The DSS has yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest.
