Omala Lawmaker Umar Yahaya Receives 2024 Kogi Lawmaker Award
Hon. Umar Yahaya, Member representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has been honored as the Kogi Lawmaker of the Year 2024.
This prestigious award recognizes his dedication, integrity, and impactful leadership in the Assembly.
He has also been acknowledged for his outstanding representation and development efforts in his constituency, including the initiation of key projects like the construction and equipping of a cottage hospital in Ogodu, Omala Local Government Area.
The Lawmaker emerged at The Nigerian Post Newspaper/Margaret Ekpo Humanitarian Award 2025.
The recognition and award was presented and unveiled to the Lawmaker at the Nigerian Post/Margaret Ekpo Biographical Centre Mid Year Public Lecture with the Theme “Children:Â Our Future, Our Responsibility”.

The program which held at the NUJ Press Centre Lokoja was in recognition of the Lawmaker’s contributions and positive impacts to the society, particularly with emphasis to Omala State Constituency.
Similarly the award is in consideration of the Lawmaker’s support in providing succour to the less privileged in the society, as well as using his resources to better the welfare of women, children, helping the poor, needy and vulnerable in the State.
The award ceremony was Chaired by Prof. Stephen Ikani Ocheni, former Minister of State, Labour and Employment.
His Royal Majesty, the Onogie of Afemai, Lokoja, served as the Royal father of the day, eulogized the sterling qualities of the Omala Lawmaker.
Prof. Salisu Ogbo, Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, delivered the lead paper.

Editor in Chief/Publisher, Nigerian Post Newspaper and Registrar, Margaret Ekpo Biographical Centre Calabar, lauded the contributions and positive impacts of the Lawmaker to the society.
He pointed out that the businessman and politician stands out as most impactful in putting smiles on the faces of the people amongst the past and present set of politicians in Omala LGA.
He lauded his positive impact in the areas of education, Empowerment Schemes for women, said he has personally and through other institutions provided infrastructure development to the Constituency more than any other individual.
Making their separate remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Represented by ACP Idris Mohammed, the Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof Salisu Usman Ogbo and the Special Adviser on Labour Matters Comr Onuh Edoka and others described Hon. Umar as a gift to the people of Omala Constituency.
