Natasha’s old video accusation against Reno Omokri resurfaces

…As Hashtag DesceptiveNatasha trends

Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio has sparked controversy, especially as the hashtag #DeceptiveNatasha trends on social media.

This follows the resurfacing of a 2021 video by former presidential aide Reno Omokri, in which Natasha accused him of sexual harassment at a 2014 state banquet, a claim Omokri denies, providing evidence that he was out of the country at the time.

After Omokri presented his proof, Natasha reportedly deleted her posts and videos related to the accusation, which was reportedly settled out of court.

This development has led many to question the credibility of her current claims against Akpabio, while others view it as an attempt to discredit her.

In a related development, Natasha’s petition against Akpabio was dismissed on procedural grounds, resulting in her six-month suspension from the Senate

Now, with this old video back in circulation, many are questioning the credibility of her claims, while others see an attempt to discredit her.

Global Times Nigeria reports Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Nigerian Senate for six months due to gross misconduct and violation of Senate rules, not because of her sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as some media reports suggested.

The Senate found her guilty of unruly behavior, including refusing to sit in her assigned seat during plenary despite multiple pleas, making abusive remarks against Senate leadership, and defying the summons of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

Her suspension was recommended by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct and upheld by the Senate in a majority vote, with the condition that it could be lifted or reduced if she submits a written apology.

The Senate emphasized that no senator is above its rules and called on media to stop spreading misinformation linking her suspension to the harassment claim.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has contested the suspension, claiming it is politically motivated retaliation for her sexual harassment petition and has appealed for international intervention, highlighting issue of women’s exclusion from Nigerian politics.
