The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Benue State, led by Chairman Comrade John Shima, recently paid a working visit to the new Benue State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, PhD, at the State Police Command.
During the visit, Comrade Shima commended CP Ifeanyi Innocent for his committed efforts to combat insecurity in the state and discussed the inclusion of youths in community policing.
He also raised concerns about police brutality and unfriendly conduct, and highlighted the alleged stray bullet incident that resulted in the death of Miss Emmanuella Ahenjir, a Benue indigene.
The NYCN chairman sought police support for the upcoming Benue State Youth Security Summit and requested assistance with stationery supplies of cops. He also urged the police to address the menace of Fulani mercenaries whose activities led to thousands of deaths in the state.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, PhD, expressed appreciation for the NYCN’s visit and confirmed ongoing youth inclusion in community policing, pledging further support and participation in the security summit.
He advised the public to await the autopsy report on Emmanuella Ahenjir’s death, revealing that the individual who took the victim to the hospital has been apprehended. The CP also suggested that the stray bullet claim might be a cover-up and noted no vehicle involved has been found.
The police chief thanked the Benue State Government, led by H.E. Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for their cooperation in securing the state.
He assured that all efforts are focused on restoring peace and security and encouraged citizens to provide early warnings to aid security responses.
