Katakpa community gets military camp to boost peace and security – Toto LGC Boss reveals
The Nasarawa State Government has finalized plans to establish a military super-camp in Katapha, Toto Local Government Area, aimed at improving security in the region.
This development was announced during a visit on Monday by Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, the Executive Chairman of Toto Local Government Area along with security chiefs, who inspected the proposed site for the new military facility
Global Times Nigeria reports that with recent developments in Toto LG, indicating that the Executive Chairman of the Council, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, led a delegation including military, police, and other security officials to Katakpa community to assess the peace situation following the return of displaced Bassa Kwomu and other residents.
“This visit emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security after previous violent attacks and displacements in the area.”
It would be reported that the area has experienced violence, including deadly ambushes on soldiers and vigilantes and attacks on the Katakpa community resulting in casualties and property destruction.
“These challenges have prompted calls for stronger military presence and peace-building initiatives to sustain the fragile peace.”
The Local Government Chairman praised the peaceful return of residents and ongoing cooperation with security agencies as part of efforts to restore and maintain stability in the community and Toto LG in general.
The Ahmed Baba Yahaya’s administration remains focused on fostering unity, security, and development following periods of conflict.
The chairman of Toto LG, senior officials, and security heads jointly assessed the proposed site for the super-military camp in the Katapha area, noting that this move is in line with the Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration commitment to ensuring sustained peace in the area.
“We are hear today to assess the land area proposed for the establishment of a military camp, the visit was to evaluate the suitability of the location and facilitates necessary arrangements” He said.
He appreciated the people for living in peace and harmony with one another since their return to the area in the past three months and called for its substance.
He announced that aside the establishment of the military super-camp in collaboration with the State Government and the military authorities, the LG on its part will sink boreholes in the area to address water challenges faced by the people.
The Chairman reiterated his administration’s pledge to bolster food security during his visit to Katapha.
He emphasized the importance of farming in achieving food sufficiency and encouraged the community to embrace this practice.
The Chairman’s remarks came while inspecting the LG rice farm, covering over 100 hectares of land, which is in line with the state government’s food security directive.
Hon. Ahmed Mohammad Nura, representing Katakpa at the Toto LG Legislative council thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Chairman, and security agents for their peace-building efforts, highlighting the community’s peaceful coexistence devoid of sentiments.
