Kogi Police Command reacts to death of notorious criminal, Muhammed Kassim aka Enemi of Idah

The Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, has clarified that the reports circulating on social media about the death of one Muhammed Kassim, also known as Enemi of Idah, Kogi State, are unverified and false.

The command urge the public to disregard such rumors and rely only on official information from the police.

According to a statement issued by SP WILLIAM OVYE AYA, POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, KOGI STATE POLICE COMMAND, on 16TH JULY, 2025, the deceased suspect was allegedly linked to a syndicate involved in arms and ammunition dealings within and outside Kogi State. The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lokoja.

Following a legal intercept by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Abuja, Mohammed Amedu was indicted as a member of an arms and ammunition syndicate operating within and outside Kogi State.

The DSS arrested one principal suspect on June 22, 2025, and the case was handed over to the Kogi State Police Command on June 28, 2025.

The arrested suspect confessed and implicated Muhammad Kassim aka Enemi of Idah and others as members of the syndicate.

Investigations revealed that the late Kassim had purchased 20 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from Mohammed Amedu to test an AK47 rifle.

Further probes led to the arrest of five additional suspects and the recovery of two locally made Beretta pistols.

On July 7, 2025, police operatives attempted to invite Kassim for questioning, but he escaped upon sighting them.

Subsequent surveillance was imposed to arrest him.

When spotted later, he resisted arrest while accompanied by gang members who attacked police with weapons.

During a struggle, a police rifle accidentally fired, injuring Kassim in the leg.

His gang members then rescued him, taking him to an unknown location where he later died.

Investigation continues and all suspects will be prosecuted upon completion.
