Delta IGR bubbles under Ighrakpata, N135billion annual target achievable
Like never before since the creation of Delta State, her Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, went up by a staggering N104.08billion in first half of 2025.
This significant financial boost was as a result of the leadership ingenuity of Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Chairman of Delta State Internal Revenue Service, DSIRS, and his team, who practically worked round the clock with consultants to set an enviable record of this magnitude.
He disclosed that this amount surpasses the N78,017,546,571.06 recorded in the same period in 2024, marking a significant increase of N26,063,057,255.68, or about 133.41%.

“The collected revenue is against the sum of Seventy-Eight Billion, Seventeen Million, Five Hundred and Forty-Six Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy-One Naira and Six Kobo (N78,017,546,571.06), collected for the same period in 2024, a positive variance of Twenty-Six Billion, Sixty-Three Million, Fifty-Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Five Naira and Sixty-Eight Kobo ( N26,063,057,255.68)
or 133.41% performance.
“The cumulative IGR collection figure of One Hundred and Four Billion, Eighty Million, Six Hundred and Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira and Seventy-Four Kobo (N104,080,603,826.74) for the period of January 2025 to June, 2025, the revenue service have achieved approximately 77.62 percent of the annual revenue target of One Hundred and Thirty-Four Billion, Ninety-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Nine Naira (N134,092,848,109.00) in the 2025 Budget estimates”.
Chief Ighrakpata credited the revenue growth to strategic management of taxpayer funds, the governor’s landmark development projects across the state’s three senatorial districts, and the collaborative efforts of the IRS management and staff.
He also appreciated technical support from consultants ICMA Professional Services and Zopaz Advisory Services, as well as stakeholder engagement, taxpayer sensitization, whistleblower policies, and the establishment of specialized units for compliance and tax investigation.
Ighrakpata expressed gratitude to federal and state government agencies, security agencies, revenue banks, private sector partners, professional bodies, unions, trade groups, traditional institutions, and local governments, all of whom contributed to the successful revenue drive.
He emphasized that this achievement has provided essential funds to support more community-oriented projects under Governor Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, further advancing the development of the state.
Commending DSIRS board over the super breakthrough in IGR, the Director General of Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, described Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, DSIRS board members and management staff for their transparency in revenue collection and their unwavering commitment towards the state’s economic growth.
He noted that in the past two years of this administration, the board Chairman of DSIRS and his team had consistently grown the state IGR like never before since the creation of Delta State.
“The latest achievement of the DSIRS is unprecedented. Raking in N104.08billiin in the first half of 2025 beat all imagination and it appears the best is yet to come,” Oghenesivbe said.
