Former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly rejected claims by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members questioning the Ghanaian identity of his wife, Samira Bawumia.

He described these allegations as baseless, divisive propaganda, and expressed disbelief that such claims have surfaced now when Samira actively campaigned across Ghana for the party without her nationality being questioned.

Dr. Bawumia pointed out that these attacks are driven by desperation from some internal party rivals and emphasized that the NPP is not a tribally or religiously bigoted party.

He called on party members to reject such divisive rhetoric and uphold the party’s tradition of unity and inclusivity, stressing that the strength of the NPP comes from embracing Ghanaians from every background.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted Samira’s significant political contributions and argued that questioning her nationality undermines the party’s broader appeal and its ability to connect with minority groups in national politics.

He also noted that the attacks do not represent the true values of the NPP and that the party will always triumph over such tribal and religious bigotry

He fired back by saying that when Samira was campaigning for the NPP, nobody questioned whether she was a true Ghanaian, so he asked, “what has changed now?” Dr. Bawumia described these claims as baseless, divisive propaganda, reportedly coming from a senior party figure aligned with his internal rivals.

He emphasized that Samira’s active political participation has always been accepted and praised her tireless efforts in mobilizing support for the party across Ghana. He denounced the attacks as desperate tactics by some internal opponents and urged party members to reject tribal and religious bigotry.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that the NPP has always been an inclusive party welcoming Ghanaians from all backgrounds, and such divisive rhetoric would undermine the party’s national appeal and unity for future elections like 2028.
