Ex-Customs CG passes on

Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, who served as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) from 1999 to 2003, has passed away.

The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, confirmed his death on Thursday via social media, expressing deep sadness and offering prayers for his family and the Lamido of Adamawa.

Mustapha was the elder brother of Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, the Lamido of Adamawa, and held the traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.

He began his career in the Customs Service as a young cadet, rising steadily through the ranks to become Comptroller-General at the start of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.

During his tenure, he was known for intensifying anti-smuggling efforts and contributing to various national task forces focused on combating economic sabotage.

In recognition of his dedication, he received the Ministerial Award for Outstanding Performance in 1988.

After serving for over 30 years, he retired in December 2003 but continued to be a respected elder and adviser within both the Customs community and the Adamawa Emirate until his death.
