Abuja was plunged into tension on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, as staff of Olusco Group of Companies staged a protest against alleged police brutality, intimidation, and bias in a land dispute between their company and an individual known as Mr. Pretty Okafor, who claimed to be the president of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

The protest followed the shooting of one of their staff members, Mr. Yakubu Lawal Omaye, who was allegedly shot by police operatives a few days ago during a confrontation at the disputed estate site in Games Village, Abuja.

Eyewitnesses said the police had stormed the site in an attempt to forcefully hand over the property in favour of PMAN, despite the matter already being before a competent court. It was in the course of that intervention that Mr. Omaye sustained gunshot injuries allegedly inflicted by an officer identified as Taiwo from the Inspector General’s Monitoring Unit, who was reportedly acting under the instruction of CSP Patrick Lamin.

Angered by what they see as the police taking sides in a civil dispute, dozens of Olusco Group staff took to the streets of Abuja today, demanding justice for their colleague and an end to what they described as “institutional intimidation on behalf of PMAN.”

The Chairman of Olusco Group, MR Olumeyan Oluwafemi who led the protest, condemned the attack and accused the police of contempt of court by meddling in an ownership dispute that is still being litigated.

He insisted that the police had no business enforcing land claims for PMAN and called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant authorities to intervene.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
