Speaking at an event organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has strongly warned young people against engaging in internet fraud, often referred to as “yahoo-yahoo.”

He stated, “Fraud is not success; it is a trap. Easy come, easy go.

He said those who embrace ‘yahoo-yahoo’ often lose their freedom, reputation, and future.

The law is catching up with them, and digital footprints never disappear.

Don’t ruin your tomorrow with shortcuts today.”

Olukoyede emphasized the severe consequences of fraudulent activities, including loss of freedom and damage to personal and national reputation.

He urged young Nigerians to invest their energy and creativity in positive ventures such as technology, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and the creative industry rather than turning to criminal activities.

He revealed that cybercrimes harm Nigeria’s international image, contribute to stricter visa restrictions for Nigerians abroad, and drain the country’s economy, costing billions of naira annually.

The EFCC boss encouraged youths to focus on building Nigeria through innovation, honesty, and productive endeavors to ensure a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
