By Sadiq Abubakar, Abuja
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris revealed that the commissions target is produce a credible voters register and Permanent Voters Cards (PVC’s) in line with the 90 days windows as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 ahead of the February 21, 2026 chairmanship/councilorship in the territory.
Idris, made this known when he received the leadership of the FCT chapter of the Inter party Advisory Council (IPAC) led by its chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Koko Kuje at the commissions office on in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He noted that the outcome of the successful party’s primaries and the just suspended CVR exercise in the FCT are as a result of the strategic partnership between INEC and major election stakeholders in the FCT, including IPAC.
The REC, however, stressed that as much as the commission would like to extend the timeline for the CVR exercise, its activities are strictly regulated by the law with relevant timeframes, including the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) across the FCT.
He, therefore, thanked the FCT IPAC leadership for the visit and their continuous support to the commission.
Earlier, the FCT IPAC chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Koko Kuje, informed the REC that they decided to pay him a visit in order to appreciate the commission for the successful of the suspended CVR exercise across the FCT.
He thanked the commission for being sensitive to the plea of the public and the council for approving four more days extension of the CVR exercise, even as he said the four days extension was not enough to captured eligible voters across the territory.

He, therefore, requested INEC to extend more time in order to enable eligible voters in the FCT the opportunity to register to avoid being disenfranchised during the forthcoming council election in the FCT.
He, however, pleaded for more time for the CVR exercise in the FCT. This he said would provide enough time for the registration of more citizens ahead of the February, 2026 Area Council Elections in the FCT.
Our correspondent report that, among senior officials of the commission in attendance during the visit were the FCT INEC Administrative Secretary, Mrs Bimbo Oladunjoye, and HoD Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Bassey.
