A UPS cargo plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, has crashed and exploded shortly after takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport around 5:15 PM local time on November 4, 2025.

Global Times Nigeria reports that the plane was en route to Honolulu and carried three crew members. The crash resulted in at least seven confirmed deaths, including the three crew members and four individuals on the ground, and at least 11 others were injured, with many suffering significant injuries.

The plane exploded due to the large quantity of fuel onboard—around 38,000 gallons—destined for the long flight.

The crash caused a massive fireball and thick smoke visible from miles away.

It also impacted nearby businesses, and two employees from a nearby auto business were reported missing.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for local residents.

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport was temporarily shut down following the crash but was expected to resume operations the next day.

Investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are ongoing, and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
