Three NSUK postgraduates receive Vice Chancellor’s scholarship grants

Three postgraduate students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), have been awarded scholarship grants by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, at the 2nd Lecture Series of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).

The awardees were recognized for their academic excellence and potential to contribute to the university’s research and innovation agenda.

The vice Chancellor, who was represented by DVC research, innovation and linkages, Prof. K’tso Ngargbu, said the scholarship grant is a testament to the university’s commitment to supporting and nurturing the next generation of researchers and scholars.

The Vice Chancellor’s award of scholarship grants to the three postgraduate students underscores her commitment to supporting the academic and research endeavors of students at NSUK.

According to her, “Effective presentation skills are important for people to communicate their work, share their experiences and connect with the world.

“It is important to unlock potentials and share knowledge. We must be able to engage our audience and convey the significance of our work.”

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Deputy Dean, Research, School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Prof. Titilayo Bamidele, said the lecture would create broader awareness of the important presentation techniques required in academic research.

Also speaking, the Dean, SPGS, Prof. Abdullahi Adamu Suleiman, noted that the lecture series aims to strengthen international discourse, mentorship and collaborative research.

He expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for her continued support in advancing research.
“Today, we proudly honour the first Vice Chancellor’s award/grants research application of the institution. I urge the awardees to make good use of it and continue being zealous,” he said,

He added that postgraduate education thrives on discipline, resilience and research.

Delivering the lecture, on the theme “Presentation Skills for Oral Defenses and Conferences,” Prof. Moses Zaruwa, stressed the need for self-driven academic practice. He advised researchers to read widely, take additional courses and watch tutorials.

He encouraged postgraduate students to attend journal clubs and to consistently report to their supervisors, saying: “Write reports of all activities to your advisor every Friday.”

On defending a thesis, he advised: “Know your work inside out, anticipate questions, and structure your presentation clearly—from discussion to conclusion and future work.”

The event also featured the presentation of the Vice Chancellor’s Research Grants, awarded to the top three winners:

1st Prize: ₦1,000,000

2nd Prize: ₦750,000

3rd Prize: ₦500,000

The awards were presented on behalf of the Vice Chancellor by the DVC, Research, Innovation and Linkages.
