Oborevwori Celebrates Asagba at 70, Lauds His Wisdom, Unity and Cultural Rebirth
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has praised the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, as a beacon of wisdom, culture, and unity who has elevated the image of Asaba, the Anioma nation, and Delta State at large.
Gov Oborevwori gave the commendation during the Asagba of Asaba Lecture Series at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, celebrating the monarch’s 70th birthday and seven decades of leadership and service.
Obi Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, is the 14th Asagba of Asaba, a legal luminary and scholar, who was crowned in October 2024.
His reign is marked by his commitment to justice, fairness, peace, and unity, and he is known for his role in fostering harmony and development in Asaba and Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori revealed his qualities as a dynamic personality, thought leader, and consensus builder, confident that he would uphold and advance the kingdom’s progress.
He said the Asagba is respected for using his traditional office and global contacts to attract infrastructural development and promote peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the State.

“Today, we celebrate more than a birthday; we mark a milestone, seventy remarkable years of life and decades of devoted service to the people of Asaba, the Anioma nation, Delta State, and indeed Nigeria as a whole,” the Governor said.
He lauded the Asagba for being “a source of wisdom, dignity, and cultural rebirth,” noting that the monarch has not only preserved the proud heritage of the Asaba people but also projected it onto the national and global stage.
Governor Oborevwori, at the ceremony commended the monarch’s intellectual contributions, especially in education, peacebuilding, and youth development.
“As Governor of Delta State, I deeply appreciate the vital role traditional institutions play in promoting peace, development, and identity,” he stated. “The Asagba of Asaba stands tall among them not only as a custodian of tradition but as a modern leader who has skillfully blended heritage with progress.”
The Governor described the lecture series as a fitting tribute to Obi Azinge’s academic and leadership legacy, noting that it reflected the monarch’s lifelong devotion to ideas and enlightenment.
“This lecture reminds us that leadership is not just about power or position; it is about ideas, engagement, and the courage to shape society through knowledge and vision,” he added.
Calling for renewed commitment to the values embodied by the monarch, Oborevwori urged Deltans to draw inspiration from the Asagba’s exemplary life and leadership.
“Let us use this moment to renew our commitment to unity in diversity, respect for tradition, and the continuous pursuit of excellence. Let us build a Delta State where every community flourishes, every culture is valued, and every citizen has a sense of purpose,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori, on behalf of the government and people of Delta State, felicitated the Asagba and prayed for continued peace, health, and prosperity in his reign.
“Your Majesty, on behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I offer our heartfelt congratulations. May your reign continue in peace, good health, and prosperity. May your wisdom continue to guide us, and may your legacy endure for generations to come,” the Governor concluded.
The ceremony, which drew dignitaries from across the country, was part of a week-long celebration marking three scores and ten years of the Asagba’s impactful life and service to humanity.
