Kogi, Lokoja, Kabba, Olamaboro and Bassa LG Executive Chairmen hails defections of former Gov Wada and others to APC

Former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Ichala Wada, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The formal defection ceremony took place at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Monday, November 17, 2025, with many APC leaders and supporters in attendance.
Wada cited the ongoing crises within the PDP and developmental strides recorded by both Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a key reason for his departure.
He praised the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stabilizing the country and lauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for stabilizing Kogi State.
Wada’s move is widely seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling his support for APC’s leadership and vision, and it is expected to strengthen the party’s hold in Kogi East and the state at large.
Speaking in a separate interviews at rhe ceremony, some executives Chairmen said the defection represents a significant political shift and consolidation for APC in the run-up to the next general elections.
The Executive Chairman of kogi LG, Hon. Musa Abdulmalik said the coming together of politicians to form a coalition to sustain development will along way to unite the people.

On his part, Executive Chairman of Lokoja LGA, Hon. (Comrade) Abdullahi Adamu expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for making Kogi a place for all, a development he said the opposition have acknowledged and as well joined the fold of givenring All Progressives Congress.
Adamu, emphasize that Lokoja LG opposition have collapsed structured and boost APC ahead of next political dispensation.
Hon Williams Ameh of Olamaboro LG, said he was one of the biggest of beneficiaries of today defection, coming from the eastern flank where opposition used as a stronghold in the last gubernatorial elections. He commended the former Governor Idris Ichala Wada for taking the lead to embrace development being initiated under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
He assured the Governor that the people of the eastern district of Kogi State are fully with APC, stressing that come 2027, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be reelected
Also speaking Executive Chairman of Kabba-Bunu local government area, Hon. (Barr.) Dare Zacchaeus described the event as homecoming of some politicians who found themselves in the House they opt not to be, rather congratulated them for taken the right decisions at a time their support will be needed.
The legal icon thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for leading the State with humility and dignity through inclusive governance, which he said has earned him the trust, love, and support of the people.

Assuring the Governor of full support from the good people of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Zacchaeus acknowledged the Governor’s display of political maturity, which he described as not only a generational responsibility but also the true language of statesmanship. He further lauded Governor Ododo for placing the unity and progress of the State above party lines, choosing partnership over partisanship.
Hon. Thaiphilus Daruwana, Executive Chairman of Bassa Local Government in Kogi State, stared that he formally joined the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and APC fanily to welcomed opposition political figures who have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daruwana described their defection as an ascension to a house of prosperity, unity, and positive opportunities.
He said the recent defections was paet of ongoing political realignments in Kogi State where APC is gaining new members from opposition parties, reinforcing the party’s position and unity as it prepares for future political contests. Daruwana emphasizes the party’s inclusive and prosperous nature, positioning the APC as the party of progress and collective good in the area.
