Nasarawa Govt Praises FMC Keffi’s Transformative Initiative as Medical Center Marks 25th Anniversary

The Nasarawa State Government has called for collaboration between federal health institutions and state-owned health institutions to achieve universal health coverage.

Governor Abdullahi Sule made this call during the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Federal Medical Center Keffi, held at the FMC premises in Keffi.

The celebration of the 25th anniversary of FMC Keffi coincided with the annual general meeting of chief medical directors of University Teaching Hospitals and Medical Directors of Federal Medical Centers across the country, where issues of quality healthcare services were discussed.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, commended the successive, present leaders, and staff for their contributions towards the growth and development of the federal medical center Keffi.

The governor called for collaboration between federal health institutions and those of the Nasarawa State Government to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

He said the Nasarawa State Government will continue to lobby the federal government for the establishment of more health institutions in the state.

According to him, the government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule is committed to supporting both federal and state health institutions to succeed.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Medical Center Keffi, Daju Kachollom, applauded the chief executives of federal health institutions for working in unison to achieve quality health delivery.

She stated that the federal government will continue to give them the needed support to achieve the desired objectives and development of the health sector.

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center Keffi, Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu, said the journey of the medical center has been a tasking one but has yielded positive results in terms of healthcare services, infrastructural development, and standardized facilities. He noted that the establishment of the hospital 25 years ago has served many and would continue to deliver good services to people.

“FMC Keffi was established in April 2000, transforming from a general hospital to a medical center that serves over 13 states due to its strategic location”

Some notable achievements of FMC Keffi include: Infrastructure Development, Construction of new laboratory extension complex, ward extension, and dialysis unit equipped with ultra-modern facilities.

Accredited training programs in radiology, family dentistry, orthopedic, pathology, and anesthesia as well as acquisition of new medical equipment, including C-arm fluoroscopy machine, anaesthetic machine, and operating theatre lamps among others.

Prof. Emem Bassey, the Chief Medical Director of University Teaching Hospitals Uyo, expressed delight with the transformation taking place at FMC Keffi and called for improved facilities in hospitals to encourage good performance by staff.

He commended federal and state governments for supporting and encouraging hard work among medical professionals across the country and promised that they would give their best in serving the people.

The event featured the cutting of anniversary cake by dignitaries and the launching of a journal reviewed by Prof. Maikano Ari, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Nasarawa State University Keffi.
