Kogi Poly Governing Council Approves Promotion of 11 Chief Lecturers, 572

The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic is primarily responsible for decisions regarding promotions, disciplinary actions, and institutional advancements. At the 72nd Regular Meeting held on December 19, 2025, and chaired by Barrister Sani Shaibu in the polytechnic’s council chamber, the council approved key human resource measures to boost workforce morale and enhance institutional effectiveness.
According to a press release by Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol, these decisions, based on recommendations from the Appointments, Promotions, and Disciplinary Committee, aim to reward merit, enforce accountability, and promote academic excellence.
The Council elevated 11 Principal Lecturers to Chief Lecturers, signaling a commitment to vertical mobility within the academic cadre.
The promotees, drawn from diverse schools, include:School of Applied Sciences: Mr. Ehimony James Baba Tunde and Mrs. Ajayi Omolola Felicia. School of Engineering Technology: Engr. Anikoh Godwin Ateiza.
School of Management Studies: Dr. Acharu Faith Tony-Okeme and Dr. Raji Abdulwasiu Adeyemi.
School of General and Communication Studies: Mrs. Akinola Hope Ojochogide, Mrs. Olayiwola Grace Eleojo, and Mr. Aminu Fasasi Olanrewaju.

School of Preliminary Studies: Mr. Boluromi Samuel Sunday and Mr. Salawu Abdulazeez.
School of Environmental Technology: Arc. Dr. Thompson Ochedi Ekele.
The Council endorsed promotions for 49 academic and 71 non-teaching staff under the 2024 exercise, alongside 225 academic and 227 non-teaching staff for 2025. Such en masse advancements, totaling 572 staff, underscore the role of structured promotion cycles in bolstering motivation, retention, and productivity in polytechnic settings, where human capital is pivotal to educational outcomes.
Disciplinary Measures and Ethical Governance, to uphold operational integrity, the Council imposed sanctions on errant personnel: Demotion of Mr. Audu Mathew, Deputy Registrar, to Principal Assistant Registrar for negligence of duty.

Termination of Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, Administrative Officer II, due to sexual molestation.
Termination of Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, for nine months’ abscondment.
These actions exemplify proactive disciplinary frameworks, aligning with principles of administrative justice and zero-tolerance policies for misconduct, which are essential for maintaining public trust in higher education institutions.
In his opening remarks, Rector Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman acknowledged the Council’s dedication to the institution’s growth and stability, commended the Visitor, Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for his visionary leadership, enabling academic stability, infrastructure upgrades, and development.
He highlights his achievements include timely release of student results.
Disbursement of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) for 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions to eligible staff in the Schools of Management Studies and Applied Sciences.
Installation of a new borehole for improved water infrastructure.
Professor Usman further reported the apprehension of Mr. Henry Tope, linked to a result forgery syndicate involving 30 forged statements and one counterfeit certificate bearing the Polytechnic’s insignia.
He also noted the elevation of Mrs. Glory Ojochogwu Yakubu, Deputy Registrar (Senior Establishment), to substantive Registrar at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Council, Barrister Shaibu praised management’s emphasis on discipline, transparency, and academic standards, pledging Council’s support to position the Polytechnic as a center of excellence.
He urged adherence to rules, regulations, and ethics, reinforcing the symbiotic relationship between governance oversight and institutional performance.
