Nasarawa Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, has doled out N9 million in cash alongside empowerment materials to residents, as part of efforts to ease biting economic hardship and promote self-reliance.

The gesture, which targeted vulnerable families and petty traders, saw hundreds of beneficiaries receive cheques, grinding machines, sewing equipment, and starter packs for various trades.

Speaking at the flag-off event in Nasarawa town, Hon. Hassan said: “This is our commitment to the people. In these tough times, we must build self-sufficiency so no one is left behind.”

The distributions included cash 20, amounting 9 million naira, wrappers, rice, solar street lights, and hair clippers, reaching all electoral wards in the local government aimed to boost small-scale businesses and livelihoods.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of Nasarawa local government area, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed urged beneficiaries to utilize the resources wisely, emphasizing productivity and economic independence.

Mohammed, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and inclusive development, emphasizing that the empowerment programme aimed to bring democracy’s dividends to the grassroots.

A breakdown of the items distributed included ₦9 million cash to vulnerables across the electoral wards, 300 pieces of wrappers to women, 750 bags of 10kg rice to support households during the festival season, 80 solar street lights to enhance security and improve community lighting and 150 rechargeable hair clippers to empower youths and barbers for self-employment.

In goodwill messages, notable figures lauded Chairman Hon Mohammed Hassan Ahmed’s empowerment initiative.

Abdulmumin Ari, Member representing Nasarawa-Toto Federal Constituency, and Ibrahim Nana Aliyu, representing Keffi East Constituency, praised Ahmed’s foresight in empowering residents. They urged beneficiaries to utilize the items wisely, reciprocating the gesture.

Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, Accountant General of Nasarawa State, echoed support for the programme, emphasizing its potential impact. The guests’ messages underscored the initiative’s significance in fostering community development.

Beneficiaries and community members praised the initiative as timely and impactful. The Nasarawa Local Government Council, led by Ahmed, continues to roll out programmes targeting poverty reduction, youth empowerment, women’s support, and improved community infrastructure.

Residents commended the initiative, with one beneficiary, Mama Aisha, stating it would help her expand her small provision business.

The distribution is part of ongoing palliatives by the council to mitigate the effects of rising living costs
