Nasarawa Speaker Urges wealthy individuals to invest in communities amid development push

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has challenged affluent residents to channel their resources into community projects, arguing that such investments would bridge government gaps in rural development and uplift living standards.
Speaking during the commissioning of a modern filling station built by philanthropist AA Ashangwa at Mada Station in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area on Tuesday, Dr. Jatau described the initiative as a “timely innovation” that provides relief to peoplelong plagued by fuel scarcity and limited economic opportunities.”
In Press Release issued by his chief press secretary, Jibrin Gwawna, Speaker Jatau noted that this will complement government efforts and enhance the standard of living for rural dwellers,” urging well-to-do individuals across the state to “invest at home, create jobs, boost socio-economic activities, and give back to society.”
He reassured residents of the administration’s resolve to combat poverty and insecurity, while encouraging patronage of the new facility.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the filling station, a private venture amid rising fuel demands in the agrarian community, drew applause from stakeholders.
Hon. Abel Bala, representing Nasarawa Eggon West in the Assembly, praised Ashangwa’s gesture, noting it would “alleviate residents’ plight, elevate the town’s profile, and attract investors.” Community leaders, including the area administrator, National Woman Leader, and youth leader, lauded the donor.
However, the youth leader seized the occasion to demand a military base, security vehicles, and enhanced funding for agents to curb banditry and communal clashes, a recurring issue in Nasarawa Eggon, where insecurity has stalled farming and trade.
Investigations reveal this is not Ashangwa’s first contribution; sources confirm his earlier support for infrastructure, signaling a growing trend of private philanthropy in Nasarawa amid state budget constraints.
In a related development, Dr. Jatau visited the palace of the Aren Eggon, HRH. Ahmad Tswambe, to condole over a tragic carnival incident that claimed four lives and injured about 20 others.
“Take solace in God,” he urged the monarch, Eggon nation, and bereaved families.
The Speaker extended sympathies to the family of victim Amos Asele in Lafia, probing the incident’s circumstances.
Preliminary findings point to a stampede during the December Eggon New Yam Festival carnival, exacerbated by poor crowd control, a pattern in similar events across the North-Central zone.
Accompanied by lawmakers including Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, and Hon. Muhammed Garba Isimbabi, Dr. Jatau’s tour indicates legislative focus on grassroots engagement.

Residents hailed the visits as morale-boosting, but called for sustained action on insecurity and development to prevent future tragedies.
