The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has tendered apology to former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, for “elevating him to a status far beyond his mental and appreciative capacity,” while refuting his allegations of neglect during his illness.
In a press statement signed by the State Secretary, Comr. Dan Nyikwagh, the PDP described Uba’s recent comments at an event in Ute, Vandeikya Local Government Area, as “regrettable and false,” accusing him of “gross ingratitude” despite the party’s extensive support.
Nyikwagh recalled that Uba fell ill in 2022, and then-Governor Chief Samuel Ortom ensured he received top medical care, first stabilizing him in Abuja before flying him to Germany for specialist treatment at a cost exceeding N300 million.
“Benue people will recall the arrangements made for Uba’s treatment abroad and the welcome party organized by the PDP upon his return,” the statement noted.
The PDP highlighted Ortom’s steadfast support, including defending Uba’s gubernatorial candidacy amid health concerns and past roles like facilitating his APC ticket, Speakership positions, and employment as Technical Manager in Ortom’s private company.
The statement dismissed Uba’s claim that no PDP member contacted him during his illness as “utterly false,” suggesting a “memory lapse” or “deliberate mischief.”
The party further accused Uba of ceasing to function as a party member after the 2023 election loss, skipping meetings, ward and state congresses, and halting financial contributions despite invitations.
“After eight years in the Assembly, enjoying all due emoluments, Uba had no savings and relied on others for basic needs,” Nyikwagh stated, adding that Uba now praises Governor Hyacinth Alia

for renting him an Abuja apartment while ignoring the party’s “lifetime of support.”
The PDP described Uba’s 2023 gubernatorial bid as its “most daunting task,” noting he finished fourth in a mock primary among his kinsmen. “To us, the former Speaker left long ago. We have since moved past his unfortunate chapter, His exit is good riddance,” the statement declared.
Nyikwagh concluded: “As a party, we sincerely apologize to Rt. Hon. Titus Uba for elevating him to a status far beyond his mental and appreciative capacity.
May he find a place in his heart to forgive us.”The PDP supported Uba through his election petition up to the Supreme Court in January 2024, but insisted it is not a “charity organization for personal medical care.”
