The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State has disavowed comments made by its publicity secretary, Isaiah Davis Ijele, about the appearance of traditional ruler.
In a statement on Saturday, state chairman Ahmed Attah said a viral social media post by Mr Isaiah Davis Ijele criticised the outfit and public appearance of His Royal Highness Abubakar Sediq Ahmed, the Ejeh of Ankpa.

Mr Attah stressed that the remarks were made “strictly in Mr Ijele’s personal capacity” and do not reflect the party’s position at state or national level.

“Official statements from the SDP are duly authorised and formally issued,” the statement added, noting the post was not party-endorsed.
The party also rejected attempts to link the comments to its 2023 governorship candidate, Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, calling such claims “misleading” and “politically motivated”.
The Kogi SDP expressed “highest esteem” for the Ejeh of Ankpa and the people of Ankpa Local Government Area, thanking them for their support in the 2023 elections.
It denied ever encouraging actions to “demean” traditional institutions, reiterating its commitment to “respectful engagement” and “cultural sensitivity”.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the statement aims to counter “false narratives” from its member amid Nigeria’s tense political landscape ahead of future polls.
