……Development, Not Drama: Orji Kalu Urged To Stop Distracting Governor Otti

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Abia State governor and current senator representing Abia North in the Senate, has come under fierce criticism for comments questioning Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s priorities, accusing him of subservience to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 ambitions at the expense of Abia state development.

Oluchi Oparah, former National Treasurer of the Labour Party, in a hard-hitting statement dated January 6, branded Kalu’s outbursts as “political eye-service” disguised as governance critique, aimed solely at drawing attention while defending Tinubu’s second-term endorsement. Kalu, who insists his backing stems from APC loyalty, has been told he can support any candidate quietly without fanfare or dragging a performing governor like Otti into unrelated controversies.

Orji Kalu: Don’t Blame Tinubu for Insecurity, Governors Must Secure Their States

Oparah stressed, Kalu has transcended blind party allegiance, with enlightened voters prioritising tangible impact over labels amid nationwide struggles with insecurity, economic hardship, and falling living standards under the federal administration.

Instead of “political noise” antagonising Otti, Kalu should redirect his energies to the Senate, pushing solutions for rampant insecurity that threatens lives and livelihoods across Nigeria.

Oparah highlighted the irony of Kalu, whose eight-year governorship left Abia starved of visible, people-oriented development, now lecturing on state progress, urging him to exercise restraint given his lacklustre record.
Having failed to deliver during his tenure, Kalu must approach discourse with humility, not shamefully lecturing a governor whose achievements in under three years are evident statewide, and focus on legislative amends for Abia North.

Governor Otti, since inauguration, has driven massive infrastructure revival, reconstructing abandoned roads, restoring public institutions, and imposing fiscal discipline, ushering Abia into post-1999 democratic governance that sparks genuine joy and renewal.

Kalu is advised to abandon “politics of bitterness and self-pity,” ceasing to exploit Otti’s name for 2027 manoeuvres and undermining a leader committed to his people’s welfare.

Expectations were high that Kalu would redeem his gubernatorial “lost years” via tireless senatorial service, yet he fixates on spotlighting a governor with undeniable results.

“He must let Otti rebuild Abia, whose trajectory marks a historic leadership pivot, unhindered by attention-seekers peddling confrontational politics. As Abia enjoys unprecedented development under “responsible leadership,” all officials, past and present, are called to prioritise people-first service, bolstering an administration ranked among Nigeria’s top performers.” Oluchi Oparah, stated.
